Run and Play to Help Fight Kidney Disease

09/04/2013

Each year, thousands gather for fun, fitness and fundraising at the North Texas Walk for PKD. The September 21 walk/run will begin at Southlake Town Square.

A backyard playhouse is the perfect place for kids to let their imaginations run free.

During September, North Texans will have the opportunity to win an incredible playhouse, custom built and decorated by local builders, contractors and designers supporting the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation.

The PKD playhouse will be on display at the Southlake Central Market from September 6th through the 20th, and tickets to win the adorable mini-mansion will be on sale during the weekends of September 6th and 13th. Tickets cost $5 each or five for $20.

PKD affects more than 600,000 Americans and is more common than Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, sickle cell anemia, hemophilia and Huntington’s disease—combined. It can develop before birth or lay hidden for decades but in both cases involves the growth of cysts in the kidneys which, over time, leads to kidney failure. At this time there is no cure for PKD. Groups such as the PKD Foundation are working diligently to raise funds for research.

The play house raffle drawing will be held on September 21st at the North Texas Walk for PKD, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Southlake Town Square.

The North Texas Walk for PKD will also feature a children’s walk, which is sponsored by Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty and will remember the youngest victims of this disease.
