Top 7 Modern Design Trends of 2014 {Watch the Video}

04/16/2014

See what’s hot in modern home design trends for 2014!

7: The Tech-friendly Home

Sleek mobile devices reign in the modern home—from iPad to iPhone to google glasses, there’s a LOT that needs charging. That’s why we’re seeing an influx of  U-Socket wall plugs with built-in USB ports  popping up throughout modern architecture this year. Homeowners can charge devices from nearly any room without clunky usb to wall-port adapters. The U-Socket also knows when your device is fully charged so it can turn off the power accordingly, preventing the endless energy drain of the past.

6:  Micro-Fireplaces

Tiny fireplaces tucked into corners or used as small room dividers are HOT in 2014. These beautifully chic additions add a little bit of warm coziness to any room.

5: Stand-Alone Basin Tubs

Ideal for soaking after a long day, the stand-alone basin tub brings a bold, eye-catching statement to any modern bathroom.

4:  Curbless Showers

Showers are becoming more popular than tubs, particularly in modern homes in 2014. And what’s even hotter than a chic shower? A curbless one. Showers feel more like a spa sans the traditional “curb” baring inside the shower from outside.

Homes Featuring this trend:

3601 Euclid Avenue

17 Winding Lake Drive

6854 La Vista Drive

3:  Straight-lined Kitchens

This year is all about clean, smooth lines. The biggest example of this? The straight-lined kitchen. Seen head-on, this sleek kitchen feels uninterrupted, usually having minimal hanging cabinets to distract the eye.

2: Smaller and SMARTER

Downsizing doesn’t mean compromising. That’s why going smaller is all about going smarter in 2014. Efficient use of space coupled with lots of natural light dominates modern architecture trends this year.

1: Unique, attention-grabbing light fixtures

And the biggest trend in modern design? That’s right! LIGHT! Unique, quirky, fun, futuristic, minimalist, bold, and brilliant–we’re seeing it all in modern homes in 2014!

November 2

Now in its second year, this music fest is bringing acts such as Jason Eady, Black Lillies, The Relatives, Daphne Willis, Band of Heathens, Seryn, Ian Moore, Ruthie Foster and Bob Schneider to its stage.

In addition to a full day of concerts, enthusiasts can indulge in complimentary bites from local food trucks and children’s activities. Pets are welcome too.

Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot

November 28

This Dallas tradition, now in its 46th year, is our favorite way to start the holiday — mainly because it eases the guilt for the meal we’re about to consume, and it supports a good cause. Join fellow Dallasites — some of whom are decked out in turkey and pilgrim costumes — at City Hall Plaza for the 5K or 8-mile race.

Raise Your Paws! The SPCA of Texas Turns 75 {Watch the Video}

09/24/2013

The SPCA of Texas just celebrated its 75th Anniversary at the Diamond Anniversary Gala this past Saturday, September 21st. This significant event engaged  the Dallas community to raise nearly half a million dollars for the beloved agency’s rescue and shelter programs. The black-tie evening included a sumptuous dinner for 1,000 guests in the Omni Dallas’ largest ballroom, live entertainment and dancing with the popular band Professor D, a casino and live and silent auctions, all themed after James Bond’s “Diamonds Are Fur-Ever.”

The evening finished grandly with a heartwarming showcase of the life-saving work of the SPCA of Texas and recognized a dozen prominent Dallas individuals, families, companies and foundations who have made outstanding contributions to the agency over 75 years.

As with all non-profits, community support makes an enormous difference. Currently, the SPCA of Texas is the leading animal welfare agency in North Texas, serving 8 counties and operating two animal shelters and three low-cost veterinary clinics. Its education programs serve children in schools and community centers, and its Humane Investigators work with law enforcement to bring life-saving care to animals under threat. Together, in 2013 the SPCA of Texas team will serve more than 50,000 animals and their people.

In celebration of this wonderful achievement, we’ve asked all of our friends and family to send in pictures of their beloved, furry friends. Watch our heart-warming video and help us say “Thank You” to the SPCA for all it has done for pets in Texas!
